About Genvid Technologies
Genvid Technologies was founded by video game industry veterans looking to revolutionize the way games are watched.
We believe that game viewing and esports is the start of a greater wave of change for our industry, as interactive media moves away from the bifurcation of “player” and “viewer” into a new type of experience.
Our technologies are built for game developers and broadcasting companies looking for tools tailored with games in mind. We are the first developer-grade broadcast technology, integrated with game engines.
We believe that the current method of game broadcast is still in its infancy. There are three major problems: 1) The camera is still that of the players, 2) the primary form of communication between fans is just text chat, and 3) Games, which are fundamentally interactive pieces of content, lose all their interactivity when encoded into to video.
With regard to the first point, you don’t watch baseball from the perspective of a GoPro camera strapped to the player’s back, so why are we watching video games that way? Similar to how broadcast evolved from radio to television, we need a new form of broadcast for games. Genvid’s technology will lead the way: methods of easy deployment of many spectator cameras, taking advantage of the information that is in a given frame.
This leads to our second point, which is that better forms of communication (cheering and more) can supplant the 30+ year old chat protocols we are using today. Genvid’s technology can enable different forms of communication between fan to fan, and from fan to player, that are more appropriate to games as a visual medium.
And that leads into our third point: returning interactivity into game streams. Every frame of a game that is generated has information on what is in its frame. This is information that we have never had before with any broadcast medium, and we throw it away with the encode. Genvid returns that information to every individual viewer, and allows them to customize their viewing experience.
